In collaboration with leaders and experts from industry, government and civil society our teams are working on ‘Five Big Bets’ that have enormous potential to contribute to a clean and prosperous economy, as we collectively develop effective and scalable solutions to climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution.

We live in a time of great uncertainty, complexity, and unprecedented systemic challenges. Addressing complex sustainability challenges requires unprecedented collaboration and new ways of working across sectors and across scales.

David Suzuki Foundation: Kicking off the David Suzuki Foundation’s Strategic Sustainability Roadmap

The Opportunity

The David Suzuki Foundation is committed to sustainability, and has implemented several ambitious internal initiatives over the years. These include reducing energy usage and waste, selecting green buildings for two of its offices, partnering with Cisco to adopt communication technologies that reduce air travel, tracking and offsetting its greenhouse gas emissions, choosing green suppliers, and so on. Building on this work, the Foundation now wants to evolve and demonstrate the best of its internal activities through a more strategic organizational approach to sustainability.

Social Innovation Approach Earns The Natural Step Kudos

All of us at The Natural Step Canada are very pleased to have been recognized recently for our approaches to addressing complex social and environmental challenges. Last week, we received a 2012 Corporate & Community Social Responsibility (CCSR) Award in the "Social Innovation Enterprise" category as an entrepreneurial charitable organization that deploys creative social processes to drive innovation toward sustainable outcomes.

The term "social innovation" refers to both social processes that are innovative, but also to innovations that serve a social purpose. Our colleagues at Social Innovation Generation are a collaborative partnership that does pioneering work in this space in Canada, fostering a wide variety of initiatives to address social and ecological challenges.

Whistler Blackcomb

The resort's connection with The Natural Step began in March 2000 when members of the ski operation’s senior management team attended one of Dr. Karl-Henrik Robèrt’s community presentations.
